Goals: abz*austria’s main goal is to reach gender equality on the labour market and in education.

abz*austria - competent for women and business - has taken a remarkable development since its foundation in 1992. Originally conceived as a professional training and employment project to help women in re-entering the labor market in the field of office services, abz*austria meanwhile offers a broad range of different services for different target groups:
  • qualification, job orientation and counselling for women seeking employment or career change
  • consulting and training in the field of reconciliation, gender equality, age and diversity management for companies, organisations and individuals
  • holding and organising workshops, seminars, national and international conferences and events
  • launching campaigns in related topics for public bodies
  • developing recommendations to policy makers in the field of reconciliation for women and men, gender mainstreaming and gender equality
  • development and publication of recommendations, handbooks, tool-boxes and reports in related fields
  • development of innovative tools and approaches in the fields of reconciliation of work-life and family life and in a gender equal approaches to the labour market in general
  • counselling for men in taking an active part in child care and family duties
In all of these activities the approach is to cooperate closely with other key actors in society, science and policy on the national and European level. As a turntable between policy makers, enterprises and women and men we have been very successful at developing and implementing innovative programs that enhance structural and cultural change at different levels.

High quality standards, orientation towards the newest developments are action-leading in all projects. All our projects and measures are proved on their gender equality effectiveness in all phases (starting with the first idea up to the implementation and evaluation).

The innovative nature of abz*austria was recognized by numerous prizes. To name only two, in 2012 abz*austria won the ESF Award for Innovation as well as the Austrian State Award for Adult Education. To paraphrase the laudation of Dr. André Schläfli, director of the Swiss Federation of Adult Learning, what sets abz*austria apart from others is on the one hand its persistence and innovative continuance focusing on the changing conditions of the labour market, and on the other hand its role function when it comes to women in top positions.
